I got a warning text from my friend Angel that he had been spotted and it had me on guard. I kept looking around for him so I could go the other way. I didn’t want to see him. It was too soon and I wasn’t over him. I was one giant margarita, two vodka Red Bulls, and one Jack and coke in when it happened. We had planned on going to the show together but that obviously didn’t work out. I knew he was going to spot me eventually, apparently I’m easy to find. He spotted me — and my girlfriends created a buffer when he tried to talk to me. They knew I was drunk and ready to make some bad decisions. Minutes later, the music started and I had completely forgotten that I had just run into my newly exed ex. I forgot that my bladder was about to explode. I forgot absolutely everything when the music started. That’s why I do what I do night after night. The second I’m at a concert and the music starts, I forget absolutely everything going on in my life and am lost in the most perfect way.

I The Mighty was the second band to play and they killed it. A lot of people have been talking about this band and now I understand why. Their music was great and they had enough energy to command the huge crowd that had gathered. Unfortunately, the mix of alcohol in my body and the excitement to finally see Glassjaw live had me anxious and just wanting to get through the opening acts. I hope I get to see these guys in a bit of a smaller venue on a different lineup so I can actually give them the attention they deserve. Same with Silver Snakes, the first band to play. They sounded great but I was antsy and couldn’t give them the attention they deserved.

There are a couple of bands from my teen years that I have come to terms with the fact that I will never get to see them live. Glassjaw is one of those bands. They broke up and kind of disappeared off the face of the planet. The second they were announced as the opening act for this tour I got my ticket. There was no way I was going to miss my chance to see them live. Every song they played took me back to my high school years. I stood there in awe. I couldn’t move. I truly couldn’t believe that it was happening. I wanted to make my way to the humble mosh pit so bad but I was stopped in my tracks and truly frozen.

Then I saw his hair  walk onto the stage.  Coheed & Cambria. These guys, like I said, kill it absolutely every time I see them live. Last night was my twelfth time seeing them in concert and each time is better than the last with last night not being an exception.

The second they take the stage, all you can see is Claudio’s hair. Claudio is the singer with a voice that is completely recognizable and an out of control afro thing that can probably be spotted from space. His voice is so unnaturally high but it doesn’t sound forced. You can understand every word he sings which is refreshing after going to so many metal shows where it is just straight yelling and shouting. The music is still heavy though. It has driving guitar riffs with amazing heavy hitting drums behind it. It’s exciting and full of energy.

I really wish I had more to say about last night. I have been wracking my brain all morning trying to find the right words to write about last night but honestly, I was so lost in the pure power that Coheed & Cambria had that I had completely lost myself. I wasn’t paying attention to the crowd (other than the drunk chicks next to us that were making fools of themselves). I couldn’t tell you what songs Coheed actually played. I was lost. Completely and utterly lost.

Last night could have ended extremely badly. I ran into my freshly exed ex and that would normally ruin my entire night but because I was surrounded by my friends and at a concert, everything was okay and I had a smile on my face.
