The title of this track from Observe the 93rd called to me today. “Mad as a Hatter”– I mean, who isn’t “Mad as a Hatter” these days? That’s just one of the many reasons why this song is worth your attention but let me explain a couple more reasons for you.

I feel like this song and Observe the 93rd’s sound overall is a bit of a throwback but it doesn’t feel dated. There’s something classic alt-rock about it that seems to nod to the 90s but it’s hard for me to call this track a straight up 90s inspired jam. It’s theatrical and dark in all of the right ways. The storyline is of a psychopathic child murdering his mother– dark, right? Well, let’s add to this with a sense of depth. Observe the 93rd has used this story line as a metaphor for humanity’s tortured relationship with nature. Yeah, I warned you, deep. Whether you want to get that deep into this track or not, this is hands down a song that’s worth your time. I love the theatrics behind it and found the video, as simple as it is, to be oddly captivating. So check out “Mad as a Hatter” from Observe the 93rd and give this Pennsylvania band some love!
