It is already lunchtime and I have yet to get caught up on all of my email accounts. Honestly, you could say that this is “TheWorst” but, really, I’m having a great day. Somehow I’m not feeling overwhelmed. I’m actually feeling motivated, positive, and stress free. It’s honestly an unfamiliar feeling but I’m going to take it and run with it and, although I probably shouldn’t take a break for some new music, I’m just feeling so great that I feel like I deserve a little treat in the form of a new song.

Hailing from Portland, Maine, TheWorst is an alt-punk trio with a chaotic yet perfectly curated sound. “Hackles” is part of their four-song EP entitled ‘Quiet the Gods’ and, although all of the songs on this EP are amazing, this one really caught me. It’s a dark song with a (literally) dark video to match but the intensity that TheWorst has somehow put into this song without making it feel overly aggressive is absolutely stunning. Stylistically, this song seems to lean into the grunge side of things but I wouldn’t call it a grunge song. I would call it an emotional explosion of alt-punk and grunge-inspired elements all wrapped up with an almost metal outlook on music. It’s bizarre yet oddly satisfying and will surely drag you into TheWorst’s world which, at the end of the day, is the world you want to be in.
