Girl at the Rock Shows

When I saw Simple Plan open for Avril Lavigne a couple of months ago, I saw a shirt that I really wanted. It had Simple Plan’s iconic line, “I’m just a kid and life is a nightmare” written on it but the “Just a kid” part was crossed out and replaced with “an adult”. This shirt made me laugh out loud and I wanted it so badly but, sadly, my size was sold out. Although I saved myself some money because Lord knows that I don’t need another black band t-shirt, I still think about the shirt often and was quickly reminded of it as I listened to CHILIØ’s new song, “I’m An Adult”.

This is a straight-up rewrite of that iconic Simple Plan song. Although I love the original, it definitely didn’t age well with me. I can’t really pin point why but I know that screaming those whiney phrases about being “just a kid” just doesn’t do it for me anymore. Enter: CHILIØ. I love how this song pays homage to the original but definitely puts a modern twist on it talking about everything from how all of your friends are having kids to filing taxes. It’s fun and quirky just like the original one but has lyrics that, as a thirty-something, I can easily scream along to. Remember two decades ago when you were a kid and life was a nightmare? Let CHILIØ remind you that, although you’re and adult and life’s still a nightmare, you aren’t alone.
