Happy Halloween! What are you dressed up as? I decided to go as a burnt out but super proud music blogger so, here we are. Do you have big plans for the holiday? Honestly, Halloween is typically one of the few days a year that I take off from shows just due to not wanting to be out with all of the idiots but there’s a show happening tonight that I just can not pass up. It features one of my favorite angsty riot grrrl styled local punk bands and, honestly, that’s the kind of mood I’m in because, although it’s Halloween, the election is just around the corner and I am ready to tear down the patriarchy. I still have quite a few hours until my show tonight but, thankfully, WENCH!’s new song “Shreds” is helping me with this current mood.
The attitude of this song is absolutely perfect. Sure, it’s very angsty with that “tear down the patriarchy” vibe behind it but there’s this attitude of standing up for yourself that reigns supreme throughout this song. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to mosh around a bit but, at the same time, the thoughtful lyrics give you something to chew on for a little bit. From the confidence to the angst featured in “Shreds”, WENCH! will surely become a new addiction. As of today, “Shreds” is the only song that WENCH! has out there but it surely won’t be the last. This is an absolutely stunningly perfect track for a debut song and I really can not wait to see what else this innovative Riot Grrrl punk band comes out with in the near future.
