Girl at the Rock Shows

“In the year 4000, George Kilroy Marten, the universe’s last hope, faced off against his arch enemy The Huntress Master of Dark Folk witchery who sought to devour the cosmos. During their battle she sent him back in time, splitting his essence into 5 separate entities. They were thrust back to the year 2016. Those 5 entities are now GKM.”

I mean, come on, with an introduction like that, how was I supposed to say no? Sure, Green Knuckle Material had me hooked with that background on the band but, my obsession with this band is so much more than just that creative and catchy writing. It’s their sound that is front and center throughout their new track “Daydreamin'”

I’ll be honest, the introduction that the band gave me had me thinking this was going to be an epic metal-leaning track but, within the first few seconds of this nearly three-minute song, I was head over heels in love with Green Knuckle Material’s pop-punk leaning pop sound. It’s smooth and carefree making it almost top-40 accessible but there’s a slight grit behind some of the words and phrases that help this song from leaning too far into that commercialized world. Think old school 5 Seconds of Summer but with a little Busted flavor behind it all. I’ve already spent a lot of time “Daydreamin'” this morning as concentration seems to be a bit tough for me today and I am so glad that I now have a perfect soundtrack to pair with it.
