Girl at the Rock Shows

Merit Maker is one of those bands that keeps popping up in my email and, every time they do, I feel a thrill and a sense of excitement because I have absolutely loved seeing this band grow. It started with their EP ‘Quarantined’ back in March of 2021, then their single “Sparks Ignite” last year. Now I’m back with their new single “Things We Dismiss” and, honestly, this is their best work yet.

I love how “Things We Dismiss” instantly hits you with a fast and furious beat that persists throughout the majority of this three and a half minute long song. Taking inspiration from everything from punk to metal with a slight hint of grunge and some hardcore leaning sensibilities, the blend that Merit Maker has come up with is truly one of a kind and makes them a band that is surely to catch your attention. The vocals have an almost pop-punk quality to them that I realize may not be for everyone but, even if you don’t like the vocals, there will surely be something in the instrumentation of this song that has you hooked. Merit Maker is one of those hard working bands and the proof is in this song. Although they have been doing their thing for some time now, there’s clearly no slowing down for this group and I can’t wait to continue to watch them grow.
