I just realized that, even though I’ve had a few posts today, I haven’t asked you all how your holidays are going! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Channukah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, or a combination of them all (or, honestly, nothing at all), I hope the holiday season is treating you well and that you’re getting everything you wanted. If you feel like you’re missing something, maybe we can fill the void with some new music like “Mechanical Heart” from Darling Darlene.

The first thing that caught me about this song is the swagger. I’ll be honest, this song is lacking that angsty edge that I typically look for but the heavy and infectious beat was more than enough to have me look past that because that beat gives this song all the edge that it needs. There’s something oddly catchy about this song without letting the song drift into commercialism. Catchy yet so uber unique, Darling Darlene definitely has a one-of-a-kind of sound that is put in the spotlight throughout this three and a half minute long song. Throughout this song, you get glimpses of so many different genres. Indie-pop, electronic-fuzz, alternative-rock, even a slight gothic-disco, “Mechanical Heart” truly runs the gamut when it comes to influences and comparisons but, at the end of the track, you’ll be left with nothing in your mind except for Darling Darlene, their unique sound, and their quirky perfection.
