I don’t know why but when the band name ‘Someone Just Like You’ came across my computer, that obnoxious “Somebody That I Used To Know” from Gotye started playing through my head. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a solid track but it’s also one of those tracks that, as soon as it hits my head, never quite leaves until something a bit catchier and perfect comes along. Thankfully, catchy and perfect is just what you get from “Honestly” by Someone Just Like You.
The blend of everything from emo to pop-punk to a more standard alt-rock sound in “Honestly” is definitely what drew me into this song. There’s a tenderness throughout this song that, at times, has an almost commercial and mature vibe to it but, as a whole, this song refrains from going too deep into that world. Think old school Relient K mixed with a wee bit of Mayday Parade and some pop sensibilities. This is a super sweet song about a relationship gone wrong. I can’t relate to those lyrics right now but the way they are presented makes this an easy song to fall for whether you can relate or not.
