I know that grunge was alive and well in the 90s and has kind of taken a back seat since then but I am loving this resurgence I am seeing of the timeless genre. Some tracks I’ve heard lately are straight up grunge and then there are tracks like “Beat Of The Sun” from AKASAKA that definitely have a nod to the grunge style of the 90s but give it a super modern and fresh twist.

This song caught me right off the bat. Beyond the cool blend of genres that hits you right away, I love the vocals and how they are somewhat whispered but absolutely have a sense of power behind them. This song has a subtle sense of grit behind it which had me confused because, overall, this is a fairly smooth and chill track. I’m not sure if this is a signature move of AKASAKA or just what happens in this song but I know that this element, among many others, leave me wanting so much more from this Brooklyn, New York band. AKASAKA just got their start earlier this year. I’m not sure if this is their first single or not but I know that I expect a bright future for this band.
