Today is kind of my Friday. I still have to work tomorrow as I do every day but I don’t have my day job and will be trekking out to Fargo to catch Eve 6 (because, at the end of the day, I’m just a 90s baby who is obsessed with 90s alt-rock bands). Because of this, my mind is all over the place but I need to get stuff done. I need something to help me focus and motivate me to keep going so I feel like it’s time to dig into some new music starting with “Hockey Fights” from The Town Heroes.
This song is admittedly a bit more chill than I tend to go for but there’s so much power and love packed into this four and half minute song that I would be a fool to not share it with you. The intro is very comforting and very folksy feeling but, after about two minutes, the song ramps up to a bombastic and anthemic track that will instantly fill your soul with the love and energy that you need to get through your day. With horns, a fiddle, and genius storytelling, although this song lies in the more folk style of things, “Hockey Fights” is so much more than just a folk song. I really can not put the amount of passion and fire that comes off of this song into words so just do yourself a favor and check it out. When you inevitably fall in love, be sure to show The Town Heroes some love.
