Today is coming up Girl at the Rock Shows. I somehow just snagged a ticket to see the one and only Pantera at First Avenue. This is huge. For those who don’t know, although First Avenue is a legendary music venue (thank you, Prince!), it’s not the biggest venue in the cities so to see Pantera in a smaller joint before (hopefully) seeing them play the giant U.S. Bank Stadium on Friday with Metallica is truly just mind blowing to me. I’m on cloud nine right now and can’t stop smiling so I figured now is the perfect time to check out “smile.” from Smile Deadly.
Smile Deadly has a very bright pop-punk vibe to them that comes through loud and clear in “smile.”. The band hails from the sunny shores of St. Pete., Florida so, really, this all makes sense and it fit my mood so perfectly. Although this is a bright and boppy song, there’s no denying the Four Your Strong styled energy and intensity that is scattered throughout this song. Although I love the vocals and lyrics, it was the guitarwork that I really found captivating in this track. There are moments where I feel like the composition of the guitar is just super interesting in contrast to what’s going on in the rest of this song. Make sure you hang on until the end of this song because that chugging guitar sound turns into something truly amazing and surprising around the 2:30 mark. Sure, it’s a little four Year Strong meets Neck Deep but, really, “smile.” is so much more than that and Smile Deadly’s sound is unique and perfect.
