Ax and the Hatchetmen – “Love Songs”

Honestly, I’m not one for love songs. They just don’t do it for me. They typically feel slow, cliche, and just straight-up boring. It honestly takes a special band for me to like a love song and Ax and the Hatchetmen is clearly that band.

As the band puts it, “’Love Songs’ is a carefree tune. It’s a self-reflective walk in the park about the funny and unpredictable ways in which life tends to flow. If the song means anything, I’d hope it’s a little pick-me-up to have fun in life and to try not to take things too seriously.” They really nailed it with that description. This song is a “love song” but it’s so much more than that and it’s the bright kind of song that will put a smile on your face even during the dreariest of days. The beat is playful and the vocals are sweet but have a sense of energy about them. Add the infectious chorus and a toe taping retro feeling and you are left with a genius track. If you’re like me and tend to stray away from “Love Songs”, I truly think you need to give this one a chance and then show Ax and the Hatchetmen some love.
