It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been able to premiere a single for you but I feel like the music high-powers have just been waiting for the perfect one and I mean it when I say that “Like a Man” from Brie Stoner is perfect.
“Like A Man” is the perfect balance of so many things. It’s got a southern twang to it but isn’t too country. It’s soft and sweet but not too sensitive. It’s energetic and full of life without being over the top. It’s truly perfect. Brie Stoner’s voice is like a cloud. It’s airy and light but has this sense of life behind it that is impossible to escape. It’s the kind of voice that will soothe even the most restless of souls and breathe life into those that have been feeling a bit down lately. Depending on your mood, this song can lift you up, bring you down, or just act as that cozy blanket, cup of warm tea, and perfect pairing for a chill and cozy day. I would tell you how I interpret this song but, really, the way Brie explains what it’s about is way more perfect than my words will ever be.
As she puts it, “I guess I wrote a song about how hard it is to date as a wildly creative, ambitious and independent heterosexual woman these days. My life is busy and demanding and fulfilling as fuck… I jokingly said to a friend who was experiencing the same dating malaise that I was “looking for a man that could be my wifey” and the idea stuck, and became a song. I had no idea that we’d be experiencing such a political mirror in seeing supportive “first husband” material out there like Doug Emhoff and Kamala, or Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis at the Olympics, but I think I’m not alone in wanting to find supportive power-couple kind of grounded, “I got your back, so go kick ass, honey” kind of man. You know…wife material. “
If you’re looking for that perfect “wifey” and just haven’t found them yet, be patient and let Brie Stoner remind you that your person is out there. While you are on the hunt for that person, let Brie Stoner serenade you.
