Girl at the Rock Shows

I feel like I write lines like “vintage but with a modern flare” or “old school but with a fresh twist” in this blog. It’s true that a lot of songs that I listen to are like this and maybe that’s why I like the songs so much. They remind me of my past and bands from my past while reminding me that there’s amazing new music out there that can not be ignored. LiquidLight mentioned that their new song “Midwest Dream Machine “fits in with that epic retro pop punk thing with a modern twist.” I’ll be honest, I didn’t believe them because, although I say things like that a lot to describe songs, it takes a special band to actually pull it off. Thankfully for LiquidLight, they pulled it off and then some.

After a short and peaceful introduction, LiquidLight hits you with their signature power in this track and, when it hits, it hits hard. “Midwest Dream Machine” is anthemic and almost bridging into a commercial world but there’s something about the creativity of this band that stops it short of crossing that line. I love how the vocals are so smooth and, at times, almost have a very top-40 quality to them but the instrumentation gives the track this edge that is absolutely irresistible. One of my favorite things about this track is the 90s inspiration that clearly pops in and out of the spotlight throughout this four and a half minute long song. I’m not going to tell you where I heard it the most but it’s definitely something you’ll catch onto and, if you’re a 90s baby like I am, you will definitely get hooked.

I cheated and listened to some of LiquidLight’s other material and, although every song I heard was clearly that of LiquidLight, every song seemed to lean into a whole different side of this band making it a truly thrilling listening session so, if you have even a few minutes and enjoy what you hear here, I highly suggest you take some time with LiquidLight’s other music that’s out there!
