Girl at the Rock Shows

Armory For Sleep is one of my favorite bands of all time. There’s just something about their music that hits hard every time I hear it. Because of that, I typically write off covers that people try to do of their music. I feel like it’s already perfect so why try and reinvent the music? Then I heard Systemized Defeat’s cover of “Basement Ghost Singing”.

This song definitely play homage to the original in a beautiful way. It starts with the dreamy soundscape that Armory For Sleep does so well but Systemized Defeat brings their signature sound to this track as the intro fades into the meat and potatoes of this track. The instrumentation hits a bit harder in this cover which I feel shines a new light to a highly emotionally-charged song. It’s gorgeous and definitely changes the vibe of this track from a classic emo anthem to something a bit more powerful. Although I think that Systemized Defeat could have done some more with changing the vocals, I like the subtle intricacies they have added to this song. It’s not a huge reinvention but it’s just enough to catch my attention and want to hear more from this band while also wanting to dive back into the world of Armor For Sleep.
