It feels weird to be back at work after being gone for nearly a week in Las Vegas. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it feels good to get back to normal but I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a part of me that wishes I was still in Las Vegas and on vacation. With that in mind, I need something to help get my head back in the game and get back in the swing of things so let’s start today off strong with some amazing new music starting with “Life Lessons” from The Last Gatsby.

“Life Lessons” is the first song back for The Last Gatsby after an eight-year hiatus due to the lead singers cancer. Although I don’t know this group’s work prior to this, I know that the amount of passion and heart that seeps through every beat in this three and a half minute long song comes with a sense of power, conviction and this feeling of having everything to prove and nothing to lose. It’s pop-punk perfection but with a side helping of angst. That angst doesn’t come through as aggressive or anything like that but more as a triumphant call to the listener to stay true to yourself and, although always learn from your mistakes, also always grow and don’t get too hung up on the past. I’m going to need a lot of resilience and hope to get through the next couple of days as I try to play catch up after my vacation but this song and other music from The Last Gatsby will surely make it a bit easier.
