Sometimes, all it takes is a song to acknowledge your current mental state for you to snap out of it. That’s exactly what happened the second I pressed play on “Bombs Away” from Ellen May. I was feeling defeated and, quite frankly, depressed due to the fact that I just can not seem to get caught up on work but this song, about perseverance that also acknowledges that we all have obstacles to get over did just the trick as far as getting my feet back on the ground.

I’m really not sure what’s going on in Australia right now but, this is the second single a row that hails from that country and it has me wanting whatever is in the water over there. This song is energetic and super fun with a punchy chorus that makes you dance and verses that will make you feel anything and everything. The crystal clear vocals seem to float over the more pop-punk leaning instrumentation in this song creating a perfectly soft and lush yet energized and boppy atmosphere. There’s a depth to this song that radiates from both the word choice and the layers of instrumentation that seem to make this entire song really catch you. “Bombs Away” is a super fun track but what I really loved about it was how it reminded me to keep my head up and keep going. As simple as that message is, sometimes you just need to matched with the perfection that is Ellen May’s sound for it to really stick with you.
