Today has already been a complete emotional rollercoaster of a day and it’s not even lunch yet. Maybe that’s why “Powerless To Change” from PROSPECT is hitting me so perfectly right because it too is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but, really, I think it’s just because this song is truly just a stellar example of fire, passion, and talent all coming together to create something beautiful.
Right off the bat, there’s something almost SAOSIN-esque about this song but it quickly moves into something a bit more My Chemical Romance inspired. I have your attention, don’t I? I know that those two acts don’t typically go hand in hand but there’s something about the dramatic and, at times, almost theatrical vocal style of PROSPECT and the way it brings so much feeling and power that makes me think of those two juxtaposing bands. On top of wall of perfect sound that hits you for the entire three minutes and eighteen seconds that this song lasts is this relatable message that will surely hit you to the core. “Powerless To Change” is about not being able to fix yourself and knowing dang well that it’s hurting those around you. You feel that powerless energy that we all know so well but I love the PROSPECT reminds you that, at the end of the day, you can be victorious. You can be triumphant, not perfect. You can strive to be better but, when it comes down to it, none of us are perfect. Maybe I’m reading into this a bit too much just because of the day I’ve been having so far but, really, just check this song out and show PROSPECT some serious love because they surely deserve it after putting out this masterpiece.
