Girl at the Rock Shows

I know it’s not even noon yet, but a glass of red wine sounds so nice right now. Okay, maybe it isn’t even the wine part, just a drink. Scratch that, just being anywhere other than at the office sounds lovely right now. Unfortunately, that’s not an option. I’m out of PTO and have a pile of work in front of me. I can’t go anywhere and can’t have a glass of wine, but I can have a daydream, and that’s exactly what “Red Wine Riptide” from The Janes is giving me right now.

The Janes are a band from Newcastle, Australia, with one of the freshest sounds I’ve heard in a hot minute. This song is definitely an indie pop song, but it’s also a punchy punk anthem at the same time. That blend is the first thing that caught my ear about this song. Second was the grit. Sure, the audible grit is real. This song has a haze of something from a different time throughout it, but the grit also comes through in the heart that can be felt in every passing note and word. I have always wanted to go to Australia. From the oceans to the overall culture and vibe that I’ve seen, it’s just somewhere that I think my heart will have to visit at some point in my life. I may not know when that will happen, but I know that I’m going to try to time it with a show from The Janes because, truthfully, that just sounds so absolutely perfect right now.
