I’m excited for my show tonight. It should be a good one, and it’s at one of my favorite venues in town, with a good friend. Again, I’m excited but this cool air and the dreariness of today has me wanting to go home and finally put up some Halloween decorations now that it actually feels like spooky season. This has nothing to do with “Lincoln Ave” from Slow Drag, but it’s where my head is at right now, so you’re welcome.
Like so many other bands, Slow Drag seems to be trying to bridge the gap between angsty emo, upbeat pop-punk, and more commercialized alt-rock. The difference between this band and the slew of others trying to do this is that Slow Drag pulls it off with a sense of perfection. This song definitely has angst behind it. At times, the vocals get gritty and spike out of nowhere with this perfect little edge. Calling “Lincoln Ave” infectious in a pop-punk way wouldn’t be wrong. The beat is fast-paced, and the bright instrumentation and vocals definitely bring pop-punk to the forefront. “Lincoln Ave” isn’t just for nostalgia-seekers; it’s for everyone. An alt-rock vibe runs through this song, making it a hit even with the most passive music listener. As I said, Slow Drag pulls off this blur of genres with a sense of perfection, so no matter what kind of music you like, I highly suggest you spend some time with “Lincoln Ave” today.
