Happy Wednesday, everyone. I’m not sure what kind of mood I’m in today. I’ve already dug into some random Eastern European folk music and am now on a nostalgic pop-punk binge, but I’m not settled in for the day yet, so let’s keep diving into new music until I find what hits. Maybe my heart wants some dark, cinematic rock, like “You Were Gone” by Mark Giuliano.
This song is as dark as it is haunting, but overall, this is just one of those gorgeous tracks that takes you away from your everyday life in a truly magical way. The story is a tale as old as time. It’s about loss and the ache that comes with said loss. It’s a dramatic, four-minute-long epic tale that pairs velvety vocals with a soaring cello solo and stunning, cinematic instrumentation. I’ll be the first to admit that this isn’t the most intense song I’ll share today, but it’s definitely one of the most expressive. You don’t just hear Mark’s vocals throughout this song; you fall into them. Each word and each “la” guides you on an exploration of your own mind. As the song swells, so will your heart. Poetry, music, drama, emotion- this song is everything and perfect way to kick off your day.
