Allapartus is one of those bands that doesn’t cross my desk often, but when they do, I tend to drop everything to see what this band is up to. Why is that, you may ask? Well, just take one listen to “Whitman,” and you’ll surely understand.
“Whitman” is a song that dives into the complications of modern masculinity. Okay, I know what you’re thinking: what in the heck is Girl at the rock shows doing trying to preach a song about masculinity? The truth is, I think it’s a super important topic, and I love the way that Allapartus addresses it here. “Whitman” starts off super emo and calm but, after laying the groundwork, the band blasts into something that remains beautifully delicate but with just the perfect amount of targeted angst. It talks about how men, like women and every other living being on this planet, need support and love. It challenges the idea of vulnerability being a bad thing and shines a light on the lie that men, again, like everyone else on this planet, are being fed by the algorithm. Just one listen to this song, and you will feel warm, cozy, and supported regardless of what you identify as, and that is just one little slice of the power that Allapartus puts into every song they create.
