I’ve been listening to Crossing i’s Dotting t’s for a few months now. Their singles keep popping up in my life and every time one plays, I feel compelled to stop everything and just listen. Their music is just so good– it’s perfect and it always seems to catch my attention regardless of what I’m in the middle of doing. All of that being said, I quickly jumped on the opportunity to ask the band a few questions so read through this awesome interview I got to do with them and then show them some love on their socials and listen to their new track “You” (featuring Brian Swindle of Have Mercy)!
We’re going to start off with a two-parter-
Pick between It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office, or Parks & Rec
100% It’s Always Sunny.
Now that you’ve picked, please assign each band member as a character from said show
Matt – Charlie
Oliver – Mac
Soren – Dennis
Luke – Combo of Mac and Dee
What’s your favorite menu item at Taco Bell?
Matt: Steak Quesadilla Oliver: 5 layer burrito Luke: #8 combo meal Soren: #8 Doritos Locos tacos
Everyone says that every crowd is their favorite but, what city has the best audience and why is it Minneapolis?
Ha, we need to make it to Minneapolis then. Apart from Orange County, Portland has been the most fun. We play at Bridge City Sessions Studio and it’s a great time… If we come to Minneapolis, will you get everyone to come?
What’s your go-to purchase at a gas station (outside of gas) when on a road trip?
Matt always gets Candy. Oliver is a fiend for Slim Jim’s. Soren knocks back Monsters and Luke gets a lot of nuts like a squirrel.
How would you describe your music to your grandma?
That would be tough since she’s in the ground, but I would describe it as The Beatles and then not tell her and then watch her face as she listened.
Favorite lyrics of all time?
“I’ve been up all night
I might sleep all day
Get your dream just right
Let them slip away”
Up all Night by Counting Crows
When playing Monopoly- who is the banker, who is what “icon”, who is the first to flip the board?
I genuinely have no idea about who’s who because I don’t remember much about Monopoly and I’m too lazy to look it up, BUT I do know for a fact that I (Matt) would be the first to flip the board.
What were you voted in high school (i.e. class clown, most likely to have kids, etc.)
Matt: This is funny, but I was actually voted “Most Handsome Bachelor” and I’m not joking. That was a real thing in our yearbook. Oliver doesn’t believe me
Luke: Most disruptive in class
Soren and Oliver were not voted anything
What’s the worst concert you’ve ever been to and why?
I personally have never been to any real standout bad concerts (besides some random local bands haha) but I usually dig any live music as long as there is energy and heart behind it.
What’s one thing I should know before listening to “You”?
That Brian Swindle from Have Mercy is featured on it, so you know it’s an emotional banger
Who is “You” about?
It’s about my Ex. Not cliche at all, right?
What was the best part about working with Brian Swindle?
How nice he is and how easy it was to actually get the tracks done because he’s super professional, talented, and knows what he’s doing. Just feels surreal to have a song with him after so many hours of listening to Have Mercy songs and watching their live sessions.
What’s your favorite Have Mercy song and why?
Weak at the Knees. Their Audiotree session of that song is so good and so emotional it kills me. That Audiotree session basically got me into making and performing music.
Any big surprises on the upcoming album?
Other than some absolutely sturdy, noisy, not overdone bangers there are no other surprises besides Brian’s feature. I don’t appreciate Brian bodying me on my own song though lol
I want to thank Matt and the rest of Crossing i’s Dotting t’s for entertaining my quirky questions. As if listening to their music wasn’t enough to make you fall in love with this band, I hope this interview helps you feel a bit closer to this amazing band! As always, make sure to check the band out on all of their socials and show them some love!
Oh, and check out “You” HERE!
