Girl at the Rock Shows

I love songs with a sense of contrast to them so, naturally, I was instantly hooked by “Drifting Away” from Havenlost.

This song starts off with a very delicate guitar part but quickly the delicate nature of the track is interrupted by emotionally charged vocals. The guitar part continues as the almost spoken word styled vocals take the spotlight creating a true sense of juxtaposition in the track. That guitar part shifts into something a bit more aggressive and loud right around the minute mark of this three minute and twenty second song but there’s still a sense of tenderness that comes from the instrumentation. Clean guitars, distorted guitars, harsh vocals, booming drums– you get it all in “Drifting Away” and the way all of these pieces come together to form this song as a whole is truly a work of art.
