I have mixed feelings on Canada right now. That’s absolutely a joke but, really, the smoke that has been blanketing Minnesota (and many other parts of the country) from the wildfires in Canada has definitely put Canada on my short list. Thankfully, the smoke is starting to clear and I am ready to give the country another chance. What better way to change my mind and mood than to check out some music from Canada so let’s dig into “George Reynolds” from Nothing Special.

If you like Modern Baseball, you will love this song. Right off the bat, this track instantly reminded me of bands like MOBO and The Front Bottoms but with a twist. It has that raw heart-on-your-sleeve vocal style with the indie infused pop-punk instrumentation that bands like that have put on the map but there’s a furious pace behind this song that gives it just a bit more of an edge than other songs I’ve heard in this genre. Think if Four Year Strong turned in their up-beat breakdowns for more of a folksy twist and you kind of get close to what Nothing Special has pulled off on this song. TLDR; Nothing Special is my new favorite band and has absolutely restored my faith in Canada.
