I both never thought this week would end and can’t believe it’s already Friday. Regardless of how the week has hit you, we’ve made it to Friday and I think that’s a reason to celebrate. So let’s start today off right with “Dolos (The Second Self)” from Fall Europa.
Fall Europa is a progressive metal band from Dallas, TX and, after hearing this track, I only wish I would have been able to catch them perform while I was there for the So What?! Music Festival a couple of weeks ago. “Dolos (The Second Self)” has a sound that feels a bit more Mars Volta than metal to me but, within about a minute, you get to see the full strength of this band shine through with the addition of super shouted vocals that come off as slightly guttural. Although those intense vocals are few and far between, the way the band sprinkles those kind of moments throughout this track is absolutely genius. Somehow, even with that intensity, Fall Europa gives time for the instrumentation to shine. The bass solo around the 2:10 mark is a must hear moment of this song but, really, this whole song just begs to be listened to. There’s a creativity in “Dolos (The Second Self)” that I feel like a lot of bands just shrug off. Fall Europa leans into this creativity deeply creating a song that is absolutely worth your attention.
