I woke up this morning with a pep in my step. Not sure if I finally got an actually reasonable amount of sleep or what caused it but I am ready to freaking go over here. Ready to take on the day, get my crap done, and check out some amazing new music while doing all of the above so let’s start the day off strong with “floorboards” from poor sport.
This is almost a pop-punk perfect track. I only say almost because it leans more into the modern vibe of pop-punk than the 90’s and early 00’s sound that I love so much. That being said, this song is powerful both sonically and emotionally. “floorboards” is about self doubt, anxiety, and trying to get out of your own head. These are all things we can all relate to (don’t try and tell me you can’t) and the way that poor sport lays all of these thoughts out in such a raw and emotional way is absolutely stunning. The sound, as mentioned, leans more into the Hot Mulligan vibe of things but there’s also this slight hint at something a bit heavier. It’s a subtle hint but I loved the way this added a little special something to the song. “floorboards” is the first song off of poor sport’s upcoming EP so, if you love this, make sure to give the band a follow so you don’t miss any announcements about said EP!
