It honestly feels good to be back to work today after a strange weekend. Don’t get me wrong, It was a good one but my heart aches for the Minneapolis DIY scene and the tragedy that happened at Nudieland on Friday. I debated sharing out singles this week much like I debated going to the show on Saturday but, again, we all grieve and heal differently and my way of healing is through music so, if you need some new tunes to help you cope, read on. I know that was a bit of a dark opening to this single but “Obvious Sucker” is anything but dark. Lucky Hit has nailed a nostalgic pop-punk vibe with this song. Stylistically, this song leans a bit more pop than punk reminding me of bands like The Click Five and Busted. It’s a fun little bop that will instantly get stuck in your head and make you want to move. There’s a lot of sound throughout this song so I was a bit surprised to learn that Lucky Hit is just a trio but that also speaks to how well this band does what they do. They may only be a trio but they come off like a full band in “Obvious Sucker” and that is truly just the cherry on top to this flawless track.
