One of the lines in the pitch I got from Teenage Halloween when they pitched “Takeaway” to me was, “Stand by your friends that are hurting” and to say that is a timely statement right now would be an understatement.
At face value “Takeaway” is a super boppy track that is infectiously fun but, as you dig into the lyrics of this quick two-and-a-half-minute song, you get the true depth of Teenage Halloween. This song is drenched in emotion and angst when it comes to the lyrics which matches with the upbeat instrumentation in an oddly perfect way. With a sound that is a bit reminiscent of Iron Chic and Red City Radio, everything about this track is done so expertly. From the overall style to the recording quality to the clarity of everything in this song, it’s just one of those songs that makes you stop everything and pay attention for all of the right ways. So check it out and, if you like this song, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for Teenage Halloween’s upcoming album.
