Some of the names that helped record and master “Vertigo” from Mascots have worked with everyone from Knuckle Puck to Lady Gaga. Needless to say, knowing this before I pushed play on this new single meant the bar was set super high and I was afraid that it was too high for Mascots to hit. I worry too much because, as soon as I hit play on this masterful piece of art, I was in love.
This infectious pop-punk and emo leaning anthem is gorgeous. No other way to put it. It’s catchy, infectious, and fun but, what reigns over all of that is the emotion that comes through in this song. That emotion is from the lyrics, the vocals, and just the overall composition of this song. Although I’m having a great day, something about this song just made me stop everything and take a breath. I didn’t know I needed that breath as badly as I did but as I exhaled to the dazzling guitar work in this song and fell into the way the words flow together, I found myself completely lost in Mascots’ world in such a gorgeous way. I’m not sure where Mascots has been hiding or how I haven’t heard of them prior to this song but they are absolutely on my radar now and will be one to watch.
