I typically look for things that are a bit angsty and aggressive especially right after lunch when I can feel the early-afternoon lull hit me. Today is no different. I feel that lull coming in and keeping my eyes open as I sit here at my desk is starting to become a task but, instead of reaching for something brutal and intense, I’m going to change it up a bit by sharing “Stagnant” from Honey Daze.
Although this is a bit slower than I tend to go for, there’s no denying the amount of power (both sonic and emotional) that comes with this track. Sure, it doesn’t have my typical after-lunch breakbeats or pig squeals but something about “Stagnant” had me feeling, well, less “Stagnant” than usual. I would say that, stylistically, this lays somewhere between emo and post hardcore but there’s also an almost metal influence in some of the guitar work that can not be ignored. I say that this song lacks angst and aggression but, really, if you aren’t super into heavy music, I could see how you would think I’m crazy for saying that. Whether you enjoy this song for the heaviness that you get from it or the pure beauty like I get from it, you will enjoy “Stagnant” from Honey Daze.
