When it comes to choosing singles to share out with you on a daily basis, there are a lot of things I think about. One of those things is what artists would benefit the most from some exposure on this page. Clearly, I love the underground. I love the unknown and the up-and-coming acts. This works out well for me as I rarely get asked by major stars to share out a single or review an album but, everyone once in awhile, one comes across my desk and as much as I really want to support super small acts, sometimes these songs from bigger acts just really catch me to the point where I need to tell you all about them. Case in point- “National Treasure” from Barns Courtney.

I haven’t seen Barns Courtney perform since June of 2017 at The Fine Line in Minneapolis but that hasn’t stopped me from listening to his music on an almost daily basis. This British singer-songerwriter has power, soul, and, most importantly, a voice that stands out specifically in his new single “National Treasure”. I know what you’re thinking, “Every singer has a voice– Duh!” and, you’re right but one listen to this four minute long song and you will understand what I mean. Barns Courtney has a voice that includes swagger, grit, heart, and passion all coated with a dusting of angsty perfection. Although known to be a singer-songwriter styled act, I feel like this song shows the edge behind Barns Courtney that had me falling head over heels in love with him the first time I saw him. Whether you know this superstar or not, I highly suggest checking out “National Treasure” and letting the swagger take you over to give you the energy and confidence you need to finish your day off strong.
