I am struggling to stay awake today. A mixture of the stress of this week and the fact that I had one too many drinks last night (the power was out so, although I had the best intentions to work late into the night, it didn’t happen) has led to one of those days where I’d love to just be at home, on the couch, with a bottle of Advil and a Diet Coke by my side and my cats laying on top of me but, here we are. Stuck at the office on a day where, honestly, we should probably just be closed because it’s so closed. But I digress. I need a swift kick in the butt so I get back into the swing of things and get some work done and that’s exactly what “Unholy” from Hereafter is– a swift kick to the butt (and gut, and head, and, well, just listen to the song and read on).

“Unholy” is the third single from Hereafter- an Australian metalcore band. It’s also the debut of new vocalist Dan Charlton. To be honest, I have nothing to compare this song to as I have never heard of this band before but I can tell you that it’s Dan’s vocals that really got me hooked into this track and this band in general. They are intense and so powerful yet it’s not hard to understand what they are saying even during the shouted parts. This is a hard thing to do especially when the instrumentation of this track is so loud and busy but Dan pulls it off effortlessly giving you a song that will both snap you back to life and give you something to sing in your head well after you’re done playing through this nearly three and a half minute song.
