One of my many jobs is a booking agent. I book tours across the country for all kinds of acts in all kinds of different places. I love it but it’s honestly a pretty thankless job and, as I always tell people, I have been doing it for over twenty years because I’m just a glutton for punishment. One of the really cool things about this job is meeting people from all over the country and hearing them talk about the venues that they own. Unfortunately, in recent years, a lot of those venues have been struggling to survive. Whether it’s the lasting effects of Covid or just the fact that live music can be a hard sell in this day and age, it breaks my heart to see so many venues struggling. Jawknee Music’s new song, “Memories” is about just that.
The biggest thing about “Memories” that I really like is the angst and slight desperation felt in the vocals. You can almost hear Jawknee Music pleading with people to go out and support live music which, in turn, will support a local venue. I love this because it’s a sentiment I share and it’s frustrating to feel like the only person who feels so passionate about it. The other thing I really like about this song is how it talks about how venues are more than just building. They are “Memories”, spaces in time where we all existed, at one point in harmony. Many different kinds of people from all different backgrounds all coming together to enjoy one of the few things that can bring us all together – music. Okay, maybe I’m getting super deep on this and it won’t hit you in the same way. Even if it doesn’t, there’s no denying that “Memories” from Jawknee Music is a complete perfect bop so take a listen and don’t forget to support your local venues!
