We all “Self Sabotage” in some way or another. Whether it’s with your love life, your day job, your passion, your time– we all do it. Some hide it better than others but, at the end of the day, when things don’t go right, we typically only have ourselves to blame. It’s a dark reality and a twisty rut to go down in, in your mind but hearing Comastatic (with the help of Down And Out) sing about this exact thing in their new track “Self Sabotage” helps a little bit.
Nobody is perfect, we all know that as it’s such a tale as old as time but I love what Comastatic does with that message. They take it a step further and talk about how, even those who seem to have it all, may be some underlying mental struggles that they hide from everyone else. It’s an inner battle that we all fight but some of us have to fight a bit harder than others. I know, deep and almost dark thoughts on a Monday, but I feel like Comastatic has put such a feeling of life, energy, and triumph in this song that it almost gives you a shoulder to lean on as you try and sift through the feelings that this song hits you with. Really, this is more of a support song than anything else and the catchiness of the almost nu-metal vibe that reigns supreme throughout the track is just the icing on the cake. Add the kick of intensity that Comastatic has and their way with an infectious alternative-rock leaning beat and you are left with a song that can be as deep, as sensitive, as heavy, or as intense as you want it to be.
