Memories are a crazy thing. They can evoke so much emotion or make you completely numb. Although I am absolutely a sentimental person, I am not the type that likes to go down memory lane often but, when I do, I go down hard and deep. What does this have to do with “Long Goodbye” from Steet Nights? Well, as you’ll see in this amazing video, there are many memories shown. As Jake Morris (the man behind Street Nights) said, “I was given copies of a bunch of old family films. While watching them, I felt like they illuminated the deeper themes of the song in a poignant way.” And so lays the groundwork for the beauty that is “Long Goodbye”.
Much like my love/hate relationship with going down memory lane, I love the fact that this song has a rollercoaster of emotions behind it and how it can be interpreted in a million different ways depending on your mood. It can be hopeful and bring you so much joy or it can be heartbreaking to see the family members and events that will never happen on this planet again. For me, today, I am vibing on the positive nature of this song. Like Street Nights sings, “Don’t it feel great to be so damn alive?”. The sweetness and charm of this song, along with the videos can not be understated. It’s truly a brilliantly written song with a genius music video to match.
