When I was home for the holidays, I spent a lot of time at “My Record Store”. Okay, I know it’s not actually “mine” but it’s the record store I worked at when I was in high school and it still feels like home every time I walk in. Going through shelf after shelf of records was a thrill and finding so many that I “needed” was truly exhilarating. There’s truly nothing like spending time at “My Record Store” so it seems only fitting that I check out this song called “My Record Store” to kick off my Friday morning.
This song is a feel-good track for the crate-diggers. It’s The New Limits’ “salute to spending hours sifting through records at your favorite local haunt” and, honestly, it’s perfect. This carefree ska-bop of a track instantly made me smile from ear to ear and made me want to leave work early to go to some local shops this afternoon. Although I don’t think that will be in the cards for me today, the chill yet excited feeling of this track definitely got me set up for success as far as my day is concerned. The New Limits have a super fresh take on an age-old sound. The way this band blends everything from the rocksteady of the 60s to the 2-tone ska wave of the 80s and all the way to a more modern ska sound is brilliant and is a sound that begs to see live. I’m not sure when I’ll get a chance to catch this Boston-based act live but I know that when I do, it will be pure magic.
