I know that calling something “typical” is not always a great way to grab someone’s attention but, when it comes to music, it’s something I look for. I love when a band calls their sound “typical” or “average” because it can either go of two ways. On one hand, it could be a solid song but, like the band says, just “typical” and nothing to write home about. On the other hand, the band could be being modest by calling their sound “typical” and, really, there’s a hidden gem in there. “anyways…” from Divine Husky falls into that modest and humble category.

Sure, “anyways..” is, as the band put it, a “typical mid 2000s pop punk tragic love song” at face value but, as you dig into this three and a half minute long song, it’s so much more. I love how Divine Husky definitely has nods to the pop-punk greats of years gone by but how they also have a fresh take on it. The song starts very emo leaning before moving into a sound that is a bit more reminiscent of something like Four Year Strong. The constant tug of war between something leaning a bit more intense and another part having a bit more of a sensitive side gives “anyways…” an energy behind it that is absolutely addicting. Sure, this song from Divine Husky is a little “typical” and it may not hook you and intrigue me like it did me but there’s no denying that this is a solid track through and through.
