If I had my way, “Sick” from Midcard would be the tenth song I was sharing with you today. Instead, it’s only my second. Although the optimistic attitude I had earlier today is still there, it’s started to fracture due to a breakdown. Not my breakdown, thankfully, but a breakdown within my computer that set me back at least twenty minutes. That doesn’t sound like a long time, but when you are working four jobs at the same time, that little loss of time is a huge hit. I’m not going to let this setback get the best of me. Instead, I’m going to take a therapeutic breather with the help of this song and just enjoy whatever the track brings me.
“Sick” is the title track and first single from Midcard’s upcoming EP, which is due out in March. It instantly fit into the playlist that I have had going all morning. It’s that The Front Bottoms feeling pop-punk, but it has a bit more darkness behind it and a little bit more punk-leaning grit, giving this almost hint of Midwest Emo. The lyrics truly hit me so perfectly hard. That’s not just because of the poignant and honest raw word choice but also the way they are perfectly imperfect. Really, that seems to be a highlight of this song. Although I love this song, it’s not perfectly polished or perfectly curated, but I think that, had it been super buttoned up, it wouldn’t have hit me the same way. Long story short, “Sick” from Midcard is, well, “Sick” and absolutely worth your time today.
