I’m not going to lie– I’m hungover. Last night was the staff party for one of my favorite local music institutions, and I may have gone a bit too hard. That being said, I’ve somehow already caught up on email and feel motivated to get things done. I know it’s not going to stay this way and, eventually, the lack of sleep and copious vodka Red Bulls that I had last night will lead to a crash, but let’s take advantage of this burst of energy and check out some new music starting with “R!OT” from Nadia Vaeh.
“R!OT” is, first and foremost, a pop song. I know that’s not my typical cup of tea, but there’s something about how Nadia Vaeh presents this pop song that makes it absolutely irresistible. This three-minute song is quick-paced and full of attitude. It reminds me a bit of a poppier version of “Riot” from The Scarlet Opera with the slight sense of drama that comes with the track, but, again, it definitely lies in a more commercial pop world. There’s something so perfectly polished about how the layers of this track lay on each other giving it a sense of depth that you wouldn’t quite expect from such a commercial feeling song. I know I keep saying “pop” and “commercial” like it’s a bad thing but, really, “R!OT” will get your blood pumping on this Tuesday morning and will surely become your new favorite pump-up-jam of the year.
