Seeing the names Free Friends and The Great Heights Band makes me think of two bands: Just Friends and The Postal Service. I feel like the reasoning for this is clear but, when it comes down to it, I think it’s kind of funny how my brain can just see random words or groups of words and instantly relate them back to a band. Just Friends and The Postal Service have nothing to do with the new track “Return To Sender” but this is more just an example of where my head is at today– all over the place but all-consumed by music– like usual.
Per Free Friends, “Return To Sender” is the group’s heaviest track to date and although there’s definitely a sense of heaviness to this song, it’s probably not the heaviest thing you will hear all day. That being said, it may be one of the most unique things you hear all day. As mentioned, there’s heaviness in here but it’s the kind of heaviness that Sum 41 brought to ‘Does This Look Infected?’ rather than the heaviness of my current obsession- Paleface Swiss. At the same time, there’s also an absolutely pop-punk perfect undercurrent that blows throughout this track. If you’re like me and like truly heavy music, you scoff at this being not heavy at all but, take that away from this song. “Return To Sender” is a powerful little number that will absolutely snag your attention and leave you wanting so much more from Free Friends and The Great Heights Band.
