Whenever I hear the word “synth,” my mind instantly goes to the 80s. I know that’s so unfair, but it is what it is. Or, rather, it was what it was. Hearing “Ignorant” from Danger Friends has completely changed the way I hear the word “synth”.
“Ignorant” is a synth-punk anthem. That’s right– synth-punk. I never knew that was a thing but, after hearing this ultra-powerful and catchy song from Simi Valley, California-based Danger Friends, it’s all I want to listen to today. There’s definitely a punk edge that is highlighted by a slightly gritty Matt Pryor (The Get Up Kids) styled vocals. The synth comes through loud and clear underneath these vocals and slamming drums and even steals the spotlight for a dazzling solo that will surely catchy your ears and heart. I think that Danger Friends described it best when they said that this song was “like if Devo and Minot Threat made an angry child,” but I would like to expand on that by saying that this angry child was raised by Matt Pryor and was dating someone who was really into Motion City Soundtrack. Intrigued? I bet! Take a listen and show this band some love.
