It’s one of those days where my music taste seems to be all over the place. Although only 10:30 in the morning, I feel like I have lived a thousand lives spanning alt-country and all the way to extreme death metal. Although everything sounds great, it’s been hard to settle into one particular sound. That being said, hearing “Lifted” from Maggie Mae has me wondering if today should be a ska kind of day because this song is hitting me so hard right now.
“Lifted” is not only ska. I mean, it is, but there are these undertones in this track that lean into an almost jazzy-psychedelic movement throughout this song which made it an oddly visual journey for me as I listened to this four and a half minute song on repeat for a bit. What do I mean when I say that this song felt visual to me? It’s honestly a bit hard to explain but, as I closed my eyes and breathed this song in, I started seeing colors swirling around in my head and a checkboard pattern floating in and out of focus. Weird, I know, but, truly this song has so much movement and such a sense of fire but also chillness behind it that it’s impossible to get listen to this song. “Lifted” from Maggie Mae is one of those songs that will consume you in all of the right ways so go ahead, I dare you, get lost in Maggie Mae’s world and enjoy “Lifted” on repeat for a bit.
