I’m finally getting back into the swing of things after my whirlwind weekend at Punk Rock Bowling. I’m almost caught up on emails and ready to get back to going to shows almost nightly starting with CAKE tonight at Surly Brewing. I’m so excited for the feeling of a live show again after a day of travel and a day of rest but I still have a full day of work to get through before I get to the show so let’s try and fill it with some amazing new music, shall we?
This song is a fast-paced anthemic kind of punk song that is perfect to use as a wake-up song on this sleepy Thursday morning. I love how Lavish Youth has such a fresh sound to their style but there are also clear nods to punk and emo bands of years gone by. It’s a relatable bop with honest lyrics about everything from addiction to loss to recovery making it super easy to feel connected to this band and song. “Dead Dogs, Old Friends” is off of Lavish Youth’s upcoming album and, as the band mentioned, it gives you a small taste of what’s to come from them. They claim that this song is indivative of the sound and overall vibe that they want to share with their audience and I know that hearing this one track will definitely get you ready to hear the upcoming album in full because, after a few listens to this one, that’s all I can think about. I’m not sure when the album is going to drop but you best believe I will be here to remind you about the genius and perfection that is Lavish Youth when the time comes.
