My computer is moving slowly today, and it’s frustrating me. I mean, it’s moving fast enough, and I think this is more of an issue of me trying to do too many things at once, but I’m frustrated and ready to go home. I can’t do that yet. I still have a few more hours of work at my day job and then, after this, a few more hours of my own work before I can escape to a show. That being said, having to slow down a bit means I can take some more time to dig into new music, so let’s take a much-needed breather and check out “Living Livid” by MKNAOMI.
“Living Livid” is the debut single from this Los Angeles-based band, and it packs a punch and a half. Although the beginning of this four-and-a-half-minute-long track starts off quiet and peaceful enough, it doesn’t take long for the sheer power of the emo/ hardcore group to really hit. It’s Every Time I Die intensity mixed with The Blood Brothers’ chaos, all wrapped up in a bow of raw, DIY-styled emotion. This song is angsty and oh so full of life, and I love the drama that the rises and falls throughout this song bring. They are unexpected but seem to follow the pattern of how my day has been in a way. This song is not for the faint of heart. There are moments throughout “Living Livid” where they may feel like more unstructured noise than perfectly curated music but, to someone like me, this song hit the spot and absolutely has me wanting so much more from this brand new band.
