As suspected, my day has taken a turn. Not a bad turn, but a turn into a slightly manic state which means I need to take a short break. I need a breather accompanied by a killer song, and “I Thought You Liked Me!” from Sour Tongue is doing just the trick.
We all have those friendships or relationships that we thought would last forever just crumble underneath us. It’s a weird feeling. You go from spending nearly every day with someone to nothing, not even a text back. This has happened to me a couple of times in recent memory, and it never gets easier. That’s what this song is about. It’s about that feeling of distress and panic when you realize you had been being manipulated and lied to, and the subsequent spiteful adventures you may go on to get back at that person, but it goes deeper than that. It addresses the guilt that comes with the feeling of being spiteful, even though, at the end of the day, your thoughts and actions may have been justified. This is a song for anyone out there who misses a friend but, at the same time, has the power and strength to say good riddance. It’s presented with a sharp tongue and no shortage of angst, making it a song that you can feel, not just hear.
