I was sicker than a dog yesterday and, although I made it through a full day at my day job, it wasn’t pretty, and I am absolutely paying the price for it today. I fell so behind because, although I was here, I wasn’t really “here,” and, on top of that, I am finding a million and twelve mistakes that I made with my fuzzy head. I’m still feeling pretty crappy today, but I can’t miss any more work or let the brainfog get the best of me, so here I am, completely drowning in work and just trying to keep my head above water. I haven’t had much free time, but as we inch closer to the end of the day job portion of my day, it’s getting harder to stay motivated, and I’m honestly not going to fight it anymore, so I plan on spending the rest of my day doing things I enjoy, like checking out new music.
This song hit me like a freight train because the lyrics struck me instantly, straight to the core. This song is about the existential crisis that I feel like anyone in my situation is feeling. I have seen all of my friends get married, and now I am seeing them start to pop out babies, and then there’s me– going out night after night to see live music. Although this song is technically a light-hearted look on modern dating mixed with all of the feelings that come with being single, I think it also works for some like myself who are doing everything they love to do, happy with their life, but when you stop and look around, you can’t help but feel like you’ve fallen behind. The cherry on top of this song is the angst and attitude. It’s snarky and gritty, full of lines that will surely make you smile like, “All my friends are getting married… and I’m in therapy.” Everyone moves at their own pace and, at the end of the day, all that matters is that you’re happy. This song is a sarcastic but beautiful reminder of that.
