Girl at the Rock Shows

It’s the day before Thanksgiving, and it feels like it. I’m doing my best to get work done, but the festive spirit in the air mixed with the fresh snow outside means that my concentration is not at its highest point of all time and I’m ready to leave my day job and spend some time with family. I still have a lot to do, including checking out some new music, so let’s take a listen to “Goodbye” from Frida and The Mann and see if it brings my concentration back or helps send me off into the holiday weekend.

The third studio release from this Cleveland, Ohio-based band, “Goodbye,” is a poppy little bop that comes at you with this super cool, almost eerie edge. The swagger in the vocals throughout this three and a half minute long song was the first thing that hooked me. They are super smooth and gorgeous but there’s just this little hint of bad-assery that radiates from every word and instantly had me hooked. When you add in the genre-defying instrumentation that seems to have a bit of an old soul behind it but no shortage of modern angst, you are left with a song that’s as unique as it is intriguing. This is just the beginning for Friday and The Mann, and based on the three songs they’ve put out thus far, I think it’s safe to assume that we can all expect big things from this band in the new year.
