Girl at the Rock Shows

My optimistic and positive outlook on today is down the toilet. The past couple of hours have been trying at best, and I’m ready for the day to be done (or at least the day job to be done), I’m bummed because I was having such a great day and now that I’m back from my all-too-short lunch break and, yet again, caught up on day job stuff, I’m hoping I can find my way back to the sunshine and rainbows that I was surrounded by earlier today. Thankfully, I have “You Should Be Dancing” from Fugu Dugu to help me get back there.

This song starts off in a very quirky way with the sound of a string quartet (or some configuration of strings) ushering you into Fugu Dugu’s world. I knew, right away, that this little snippet isn’t where the sound of the band ends; it’s where it begins, and I was so right. As this epic, nearly six-minute song moves along, you enter a whole new world that feels a bit like Gogol Bordello, with a bit more of a traditional tone at times and a bit more boisterous at others. The energy of this song is on point and, as the lyrics declare that “You Should Be Dancing,” you will, in fact, find yourself questioning why you aren’t dancing. This song is joy and joy is something we could all use a bit more of especially if you’re having a day like I am today so take a break from the grind. Take a break from the stress of living and let Fugu Dugu remind you just what joy and happiness are. Don’t be afraid to dance a little bit either.
